A Journey Through Publishing
Born in a quaint village in the Scottish Highlands 35 years ago, I was immersed in rich storytelling traditions from my earliest days. Those formative years, surrounded by tales passed down through generations, ignited my enduring passion for literature and narrative craft.
At 18, I embarked on my academic journey to London, pursuing English Literature and Publishing Studies at university. This formal education laid the groundwork for what would become my life’s work – understanding both the creative soul and commercial heart of publishing.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve been fortunate to experience every facet of the publishing industry. My career began as an editorial assistant at a boutique London press, before advancing through roles in acquisitions and digital strategy at major publishing houses. My path has taken me across continents, consulting for independent publishers in Toronto and New York, where I’ve helped authors navigate the ever-evolving landscape of self-publishing and digital marketing.
Today, I’m honoured to be recognised as an authority in publishing, bridging the gap between traditional industry knowledge and digital innovation. I take particular pride in providing practical advice and actionable strategies that have guided countless authors—from first-time writers to seasoned professionals—toward successful publication.
When I’m not immersed in the world of publishing, you’ll find me hiking the familiar trails of my beloved Scottish Highlands, exploring literary festivals across the globe, or mentoring the next generation of authors. My previous book, “The Publishing Playbook: From Manuscript to Market”, has become an essential resource for writers navigating the modern publishing landscape, and I’m thrilled to continue sharing my expertise through my latest work.
